A brief description of the program, including examples of peer-to-peer outreach activities:

The Well-Being Learning Community is a group of faculty and staff who are committed to realizing Mason's Strategic Goal of becoming a model well-being university where all of its members thrive. Members are from all sectors of the university including academic units, human resources, university life, sustainability, facilities, marketing, athletics, and others. The group provides guidance on how to institutionalize well-being policies and practices into all areas of the university and implements those practices in their respective spheres of influence. Examples of accomplishments include resilience learning modules for faculty, staff, and students as well as professional development programs within the various domains of well-being.


A brief description of how the employee educators are selected:

Members are nominated by other members within the Mason community and represent a diverse cross section of the university.


A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:

Members meet three times a semester and receive education about new research, articles, and share how members apply well-being concepts into their scope of work. Well-Being concepts taught cover five domains including purpose and meaning, financial, social, physical, and community engagement.


A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or paid faculty/staff coordination):

The Well-Being Learning Community is supported by the Center for the Advancement of Well-Being, an academic unit on campus.

The Green Office Program is a certification process that recognizes offices on Mason's campuses for reducing their environmental footprint. The program outlines a specific set of 'green' measures and actions that departments and offices can implement in their workspace to become Green Office Certified. Green Office liaisons are Green Office champions for their specified office. They voluntarily contact the Mason Office of Sustainability and request to have their office Green Office certified.

Green Office liaisons are Green Office champions for their specified office. They voluntarily contact the Mason Office of Sustainability and request to have their office Green Office certified.


A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach (2nd program):

The Green Office liaisons receive the Green Office presentation, which goes over the certification levels and expectations. They are also educated by the Mason Office of Sustainability about how to implement green practices in their office. They are the contact point for the program and communicate any new initiatives to the staff members.

Mason's Office of Sustainability provides offices with educational material and assists with implementing Green Office policies in the workplace. For example, they provide light switch prompts, proper labeling of recycling, and assist with setting up double-sided printing.
