The Office of Sustainability provides professional development opportunities to all Mason employees throughout the year. Staff and faculty can certify their office as a sustainable office through the Green Office Program. The program outlines sustainable actions and measures and trains employees how to become a Green Office.
George Mason University is a member of the Virginia chapter of APPA: Leadership in Educational Facilities. In June of 2017, Mason hosted the annual conference. Sessions included "Building a Resilient Campus Energy Infrastructure Network", Campus Greenhouse: Growing Greens for Campus Dining Halls at GMU", and "Create & Maintain High-Performing Campus Facilities.
Finally, throughout the academic year, the office of Human Resources and Payroll holds a physical well-being seminar series, covering a broad spectrum of topics. All staff members are encouraged to attend these sessions. Additionally, the office annually holds a Faculty-Staff Enrichment Day with breakout sessions and keynote speakers centered around a theme, usually current events in the Mason community. In years past, the theme was "Building a Culture of Appreciation", "Dive into your Strengths", and "Living the Mason Values".
