The President's Park Greenhouse (PPG) is an innovative partnership between the Office of Sustainability, Mason Dining, and academic units. The PPG relies on hydroponics, a technique that combines a soil-less medium with nutrient-infused water to provide nourishment to growing plants. It also relies on student assistance--and there have been hundreds so far. Students experience a transformative, experiential learning opportunity through credit internships, service learning, volunteerism, and educational tours. The PPG produces close to two thousand pounds of fresh produce and microgreens annually. All the produce is sold to dining services on campus, thus reducing the number of food miles as well as raising student awareness of local campus-grown foods.
