The College of Professional Studies is GW’s continuing education school, designed for working professionals. The College offers a number of programs with a total of 49 unique courses (the other 4 in the inventory are from other CPS programs that have individual courses related to sustainability), including two fully sustainability focused programs; Masters in Professional Studies in Urban Sustainability, and a Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Landscapes.
Masters in Professional Studies in Urban Sustainability
The Sustainable Urban Planning Program addresses everything that more conventional urban planning programs cover - with the added dimension of sustainability, which runs through the program from start to finish. In the program, you will find a world-class set of faculty who work closely with their students; challenging coursework keyed to the cutting edge of the field; an independent student government; outstanding opportunities for networking with professionals working in sustainable development planning, both domestically and internationally; a study abroad program, set in Seoul, Korea; and much more.

Sustainable Landscapes
The very best designers combine an understanding of ecosystem functions with the power of a beautiful aesthetic. They offer creative, environmentally-responsible design solutions that achieve their clients’ goals and satisfy state and local regulations. GW’s Sustainable Landscapes program will allow students to build your practice with the latest knowledge and sustainable design skills: urban ecology, stormwater management, soil conservation, native plants and urban food production.

This number is an underestimate of the continuing education opportunities offered by GW. Each school offers a number of continuing education courses and programs, many of which are related to sustainability. For example the GW Law School offers many day long opportunities for legal professionals to earn continuing education credits, as does the School of Public Health. These programs were not catalogued for this submission because of the decentralized nature of a large university. For purposes of accounting, we focused only on our continuing education College-- the College of Professional Studies.
