The local performing and movie theater, owned and operated by Gettysburg College, is home to a 2,000 square foot green roof. A portion of the roof is covered with vegetation which reduces the buildings albedo, improves its stormwater runoff, reduces the heat inside the building, and reduces the carbon dioxide in the atmoshpere.

A retention pond is located behind the science center. When the small stream on campus begins to overflow, water is diverted here instead.

Our new athletic center drains all of the rainwater gathered on the rooftop underneath a campus parking lot to a 15,000 gallon cistern. This water is used for drought purposes only. If more than 15,000 gallons enters the cistern, it slowly moves towards a filtration system located under another parking lot.
