Gonzaga University engages in the Spokane County Commute Trip Reduction Program to offer carpool, vanpool, complimentary bus passes, priority parking for fuel efficient and low emission vehicles.

A brief description of the methodology(ies) the institution used to complete its air emissions inventory:

We have three large permitted steam boilers, one large permitted backup generator, and a single permitted paint spray booth that Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency (SRCAA) monitors and inspects on an annual basis. https://www.spokanecleanair.org/.

We have the emissions tested annually on three steam boilers, two in College Hall and one in Hughes Hall. These boilers are approximately 4 MMBTU in size. The permits for each boiler require that we should be below 30 ppm NO and 60 ppm CO at 3% O2. We have a stack emission test kit that prints out a receipt with ppm of noxious emissions and levels. We submit this tape to the SRCAA for review prior to the annual inspection.

The permit for the 800 hp diesel generator requires us to perform and record a full maintenance routine on an annual basis to make sure the emissions gear and the lubricants in the generator are in good shape. Western States performs this maintenance for us and sends us a inspections report, which we file in Plant Services.

The permit for the spray booth limits us to water based paints and the proper filters on the exhaust fan. We also have to record filter changes on a routine basis. At least one a month depending on use.
