A brief description of the mechanisms through which students have an avenue to participate in one or more governance bodies:

Gonzaga has a number of committees ranging from academics and student life to safety and athletics. There is at least one student representative on each of these committees. Representatives are either appointed by the student body president from the general student body or elected as a senator and then appointed to a committee by the Speaker of the Senate or by the Student Body President.


Is there at least one student representative on the institution’s governing body who was elected by peers or appointed by a representative student body or organization?:
Yes

Student Regents apply for positions and are chosen by the Board of Trustees.

There is a student representative who sits on the Strategic Planning Committee for the University.

Yes

A brief description of the mechanisms through which all staff have an avenue to participate in one or more governance bodies:

The Staff Assembly exists to contribute to the success of Gonzaga University, to the growth and welfare of its staff employees, and to the promotion of a positive and supportive work environment. As a constituent organization, along with the Faculty Assembly and GSBA, the Staff Assembly operates as a recognized part of the University system to provide a forum for open communication and ongoing dialogue among staff and between staff and administration. The Assembly is consultative and deliberative body with authority to make recommendations to the President of the university on all matters that have a significant bearing on the working environment of the staff. The Staff Assembly serves as the official nominating body for staff representation to University committees that deal with topics of impact on staff employees and to other task forces and search committees, as needed.

Yes

Gonzaga has a staff Regent on our Board of Regents.

For example in 2014, the staff assembly worked on updating the paid sick leave plan and discussed ideas about a childcare and paid maternity leave.

A brief description of the mechanisms through which all faculty (including adjunct faculty) have an avenue to participate in one or more governance bodies:

The Faculty Assembly is the agency by which the whole faculty can fulfill its responsibility to participate in the governance of the University. At times this participation will involve approval of recommendations made by the President and administration; at time it will involve initial recommendations made by the faculty, subject to the development and endorsement of the President or appropriate governing body.

Yes

A brief description of faculty representation on the governing body, including how the representatives are selected:

All tenured, tenure-track, and long-term fixed-term faculty do. Each school and each department in the College of A&S has an elected representative in the Faculty Senate, which is the elected representative body for the faculty (under our Faculty Constitution, “Faculty Assembly” refers to the entire body of full-time faculty. The Faculty Senate is an elected body of the Assembly). All full-time faculty are eligible to vote in university-wide faculty elections for committees. Schools and departments retain the right to allow their fixed-term faculty to vote in school/departmental elections. We do not have mechanisms in place for adjunct faculty to participate in governance bodies.
