A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:
Goucher requires all students to study abroad, either for a year or semester, or during an intensive course abroad (ICA), which is a three-week course. Below are two programs abroad focused on sustainability.
1. Intensive Course Abroad: Spanish and Environmental Studies in Ecuador: During this interdisciplinary intensive course abroad, students can complete Spanish 130E and Environmental Studies 130E in Quito and San Cristobal Island, Galapagos. This course allows students to study environmental sustainability and Spanish in one of the most bio-diverse countries in the world. As part of the total language-immersion experience, students stay with host families in San Cristobal Island and will participate in a variety of field trips to learn about the environmental challenges and the richness of the biodiversity in the Galapagos. Other field experiences on the mainland include a trip to the Cloud Forest, Quito, and the Otavalo market (http://www.goucher.edu/study-abroad/study-abroad-programs/ecuador-spanish-and-environmental-studies)
