A brief description of any internal sustainability professional development and training opportunities that the institution makes available to staff:

All staff are invited to attend regular sustainability tours of the campus to obtain an update of the College's sustainability initiatives, learn how to better integrate sustainability into their specific areas, and discuss sustainability collaborations with colleagues. There is also training offered specifically on the strategic plan and the College's progress to meeting our goals in environmental, economic, and social sustainability.

Additional sustainability related training that have been made available to staff in the past three years include, diversity training, zero-waste workshop, financial investing and sustainability, heath and wellness programming, and home weatherization. In the spring of 2016, the North Country Resiliency Conference held at Green Mountain College was open to all employees at the College and provide speakers and breakout sessions where staff and faculty could engage in topics related to resiliency and sustainability.

When sustainability related speakers present at Green Mountain College, staff and faculty are encouraged to attend their presentations as well as classroom sessions. At times, special sessions with staff and faculty are also set up with the speaker.


A brief description of any external professional development and training opportunities in sustainability that are supported by the institution(e.g. through payment, reimbursement, or subsidy):

Each year the College financially supports the director of Sustainability to participate in one or more sustainability related training, conferences, and networking meetings. These have included supporting participation/attendance at the Annual AASHE Conference, the Northeast Campus Sustainability Consortium annual meeting, the Vermont Campus Sustainability Network meetings, and Vermont Campus Compact meetings. Staff from Student Life and the Sustainability Office are support to attend the Vermont Campus Compact meetings on a less on a less regular basis.

The director of Sustainability was also supported in attending the Vermont Organics Recycling Symposium in spring of 2016.
