Every two years, the College conducts the Social and Human Capital Survey which was developed by Green Mountain College's Authentic Sustainability Coordinating Committee Scorecard utilizing research and tools from other sectors and adapting them for a higher education setting.. This survey is administered to students in upper level common core curriculum courses, all staff, and faculty.

In addition to the social and human capital survey, additional assessment is conducted through as part of Institutional Research and Faculty governing bodies. Assessment through Institutional Research includes a focus on persistence and retention rates for underrepresented groups, with a specific focus on students of color.

The Faculty Compensation Committee conducted an Equity Analysis of faculty pay in the spring of 2017, comparing the compensation between male and female faculty members at the institution.

A brief description of the most recent assessment findings and how the results are used in shaping policy, programs and initiatives:

Results from the social and human capital survey identified individuals holding conservative social and religious viewpoints feel less welcome and supported at the institution. Sexual orientation and gender identify were identified as being supported at Green Mountain College. Institutional reporting indicates persistence and retention for students of color is less compared to students who identify as white. Faculty Salary analysis did not show differences in pay due to gender.

Persistence and retention has been systematically addressed through efforts of the Career, Advising, and Teaching (CAT) Center. Faculty and staff are given training on how to better support students to succeed, and specific strategies and training focus on differentiated teaching methods for diversity of students.

A brief description of how the assessment results are shared with the campus community:

Results of the Social and Human Capital survey are shared in a variety ways including faculty training at the beginning of the academic year and strategic planning meetings with faculty, staff, student, and board of trustee membership. Institutional report data is available to faculty and staff via the campus intranet. The Faculty Salary Analysis was shared as part of a all faculty meeting in May 2017.
