Hampshire College maintains two key committees focusing on sustainability:
1. The Environmental Committee (https://www.hampshire.edu/sustainable/the-environmental-committee), made up of elected and appointed faculty, staff, and students from across the campus, engages the entire community in environmental and sustainability issues. The environmental committee is an advisory body and action committee to the President and the community at large. Its responsibilities include the following:
* To gather information pertinent to decreasing the College's "environmental footprint," and to convert this information into usable form. This may include ecological surveys, institutional studies, financial information, development plans, student work, awareness campaigns on specific issues, and more. All information will be public and easily accessible.
* To connect with various administrators, trustees, faculty, and student groups to coordinate interests, plans, and activism in terms of environmental efforts. This includes inviting the entire community to voice what they would like to see happen in the future.
* To advise and make recommendations to the administration on ways to maximize socially-just sustainable planning in purchasing, development, and policy making.
* To help increase the community's awareness and accessibility to low-impact living.
2. The Farm STAR Committee (https://www.hampshire.edu/farm/farm-mission-and-vision)
The Farm STAR (Sow to Achieve Results) Committee is a small group of students, faculty, and staff appointed by President Jonathan Lash. Committee members commit to regular meetings and on-going work representing and communicating with the Hampshire community as a whole. The Farm STAR Committee works with the multiple segments of the community involved with and interested in the farm to advance and implement a broad vision of the farm’s role in the future, which includes a proposed Five-Year Strategic Plan.

Accomplishments of the Environmental Committee during the previous three years include the following:
A. Ongoing administration of the Sustainable Revolving Fund SURF (https://www.hampshire.edu/sustainable/hampshire-college-sustainability-revolving-fund)
B. Approving Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) purchases as part of our solar PV initiatives
C. Reviewing and approving several small (<10kW) PV installations at campus properties
D. Ongoing monitoring of all PV systems to ensure compliance with College's commitment to ecological land management of lands under solar arrays
