Environmental Studies Learning Outcomes:

1. Competency in understanding the interdisciplinary relationships between humans and their environment.
- Students will appreciate the interdisciplinary nature and implied complexities of an environmental issue.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to interpret quantitative data (maps, charts, graphs, spreadsheets and equations) and utilize scientific inquiry to formulate hypotheses, gather and analyze data.
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of the relationships between humans and economic, social, and political thought that affect the natural and human environment.
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of philosophical, spiritual, literary, and artistic traditions that affect the natural and human environment.
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of maps and geographic display of data, statistical analysis or writing competency to support their arguments on any environmental issue.
2. Ability to identify the multiple dimensions of environmental issues, using the tools and ways of knowing specific to the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities.
3. Competency in being able to locate and access information on environmental issues.

- Describe, synthesize, and thoroughly analyze the concept of sustainability and sustainable community development
- Identify key components that aid in the creation of sustainable development projects and initiatives
- Identify the challenges to sustainable development within various communities
