A brief description of the sustainable food and beverage purchasing program:

Hope College Dining Services is dedicated to providing the best possible dining experience, while also making sustainable choices in the purchasing of their food and beverage products. Hope works with Gordon Food Services to obtain a list of all local manufacturers and growers, and from that list determines where to purchase products. Hope also contracts directly with some local growers, such as for apples, dairy products, and dairy products.

A brief description of the methodology used to track/inventory sustainable food and beverage purchases:

Our primary supplier, GFS, provides us with access to the “Near Buy” report. This report can give us all suppliers and growers that we have purchased from within 150 miles of our location. In addition, all of our purchases from our dairy cooperative, meat market, apple orchard, bagel supplier, sorbet manufacturer and local bakery are considered local.
