A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory (including the types of faculty and staff included as researchers):

To compile the research inventory attached in this section, the Office of sustainability (OS) worked with Sponsored Programs to review the listings of all grant-funded research. The two entities compiled an initial list of faculty and staff who might be conducting research within the realm of sustainability collaboratively, based on the researcher's home department or any prior knowledge about the content of their work. As a second step, the OS then reviewed research project documents in depth, including proposals, budget documents, and status reports in order to determine whether the project explicitly and intentionally set out to study and link at least two of the three components of sustainability- economy, society, or environment. Finally, the OS assembled and included simplified descriptions of the research in the attached spreadsheet.

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:

The time period used to capture data included filtering grant funded research to 2013, 2014, 2015, & 2016. This intended to capture research that was active during the following academic years: 2013-2014, 2014-2015, and 2015-2016. The OS removed researchers not affiliated with academic departments per STARS criteria. This removed two researchers from the total number of principle investigators: Connie Stewart (President's Office) and Kristen Johnson (Office of Economic, Community, and Business Development).
