Does the institution use Low Impact Development (LID) practices as a matter of policy or standard practice to reduce rainwater/stormwater runoff volume and improve outgoing water quality for new construction, major renovation, and other projects?:
Yes

A brief description of the institution’s Low Impact Development (LID) practices:

There are several areas on the North Campus that have bio swales installed to help retain storm water and use it to water the native plants that have been installed in the bio swales.

Has the institution adopted a rainwater/stormwater management policy, plan, or strategies that mitigate the rainwater runoff impacts of ongoing campus operations through the use of green infrastructure? :
Yes

A brief description of the institution’s rainwater/stormwater management policy, plan, and/or strategies for ongoing campus operations:

The college is committed to designing and constructing LEED accredited buildings meeting stringent standards for managing stormwater runoff. Historically, the college has met the requirements and regulations of Illinois Dept. of Health and Environmental Resources as applied to all college construction projects. The college maintains a retention pond, stone swale, bio swales and other storm water draining fixtures to regulate and manage stormwater.

A brief description of any rainwater harvesting employed by the institution:

Rain water is collected in rain barrels at our Horticulture Land Lab complex. Rain water collected is then used to water plants in our greenhouses.

Rainwater harvested directly and stored/used by the institution, performance year:
350 Gallons

A brief description of any rainwater filtering systems employed by the institution to treat water prior to release:

none

A brief description of any living or vegetated roofs on campus:

Planting system on both the CougarPlex and Arbor rooftops. The living roof was installed in 2011 on the CougarPlex building. The roof covers 12,114 sqf or 17% of the 73,690 sqf building.

A brief description of any porous (i.e. permeable) paving employed by the institution:

The College installed a 3,654 sqf of porous paving in the new parking lot adjacent to the CougarPlex. This asphalt pavement allow its surface rain water to penetrate the surface and saturate into the soil below.

A brief description of any downspout disconnection employed by the institution:

none

A brief description of any rain gardens on campus:

none

A brief description of any stormwater retention and/or detention ponds employed by the institution:

A retention pond is located on the East Peoria campus to capture excessive amounts of storm water from parking lot storm water runoff.

A brief description of any bioswales on campus (vegetated, compost or stone):

The storm/rain water captured from the parking lots are drained into stone swales and is piped to a retention pond and or to the storm water drainage system. ICC utilizes two Bioswales (vegetated swales) which are open channels specifically designed to attenuate and treat stormwater runoff. They intentionally promote slowing, cleansing and infiltration of stormwater runoff.

A brief description of any other rainwater management technologies or strategies employed by the institution:

none
