A brief description of the institution's indoor air quality plan, policy, and/or practices:

The indoor air quality at Iowa State is targeted to meet standards set by the American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) for indoor air quality, specifically ASHRAE 62.1-2010. This falls under direct building control. ISU also has a computerized controls system (Johnson Controls) used to monitor and control building temperatures and ventilation for over 12 million square feet. To optimize energy use, buildings are scheduled in accordance with occupancy hours furnished by Room Scheduling and Building Security Services, within the division of Facilities Planning and Management.

In addition, all new LEED rated construction follows strict air quality plans during construction and prior to occupancy. Either air sampling or a full building flush is performed in compliance with the guidelines laid out in LEED Indoor Environmental Quality credit 3.2 Construction Indoor Air Quality Management Plan - Before Occupancy.

Concerns and complaints about air quality are processed by Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) who will investigate all concerns and prescribe appropriate actions to address findings.
