A brief description of the water metering employed:
Iowa State receives potable water from the City of Ames. All connections from Ames to ISU are fully metered. Iowa State tracks potable water use through a publicly available website. This allows water usage to be seen for each metered building on campus, and to compare usage over time. Metering has been in place for several years, and other information that can be viewed for buildings includes three-year average usage as well as progress towards the university-wide goal of reducing usage by 15% compared to three-year averages. Although metering is not available in all of ISU’s buildings, it is in place in all our auxiliary operations including residential housing, athletics, dining, recreation services, the Memorial Union, and Morrill Hall.
