Has the institution adopted a policy prohibiting idling?:
Yes

A brief description of the policy:

In a 2001 memo to all campus departments, the Office of Campus Safety's Environmental Health and Safety department reminded all owners/operators of vehicles of State regulations governing idling of diesel vehicles:

"The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation regulations (6 NYCRR 217-3.2) prohibit any person who owns or operates a vehicle with a diesel-powered engine from idling motionless for more than five consecutive minutes, except when the ambient temperature is continuously below 25 F.

Ithaca College currently operates several vehicles with diesel-powered engines. There are also many contractors and vendors that park their trucks throughout campus. All diesel-fueled vehicles must comply with the no-idling requirements while on campus.

Please inform your respective personnel, as well as your contractors and vendors of the no-idling requirements."
