Materials recycled, composted, reused, donated, re-sold, or otherwise diverted :
609 Tons

Materials disposed in a solid waste landfill or incinerator :
764.08 Tons

A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contributed to the diversion rate:

The figure above does NOT include all the tons of materials donated, re-sold or otherwise diverted, because we do not capture actual tonnage weights for those materials. But they are substantial. For instance, mattresses are returned to the manufacturer for recycling.

Ithaca College maintains a comprehensive recycling program, with separate recycling stations in all campus areas. In common areas, recycling stations feature separate containers for bottles/cans, office paper, and trash. In food service retail areas around campus, there are stations with additional compost collection containers as well. All faculty/staff offices have underdesk containers for clean office paper and trash, with additional recycling containers located nearby for bottles/cans and larger-scale paper collection. All student residence hall rooms have recycling baskets for bottles/cans and paper.
