A brief description of the institution's indoor air quality plan, policy, and/or practices:

Monitoring and maintenance of general and specialty air handling systems is handled by the campus Building Automation Systems Department. In addition critical areas such as laboratory fume hoods have local flow monitoring sensors and alarms. Monitoring of specific aerosols, vapors and fumes is handled by the respective departmental laboratory safety designee, who is overseen by a representative of JMU Public Safety Risk Management who is trained as a Professional Industrial Hygienist. At the building level there is an FM trained building coordinator, who receives all concerns from the occupants and submits them to Facilities Management for a response. FM Engineering is consulted when a problem with the existing system is suspected or occurs, and when a modification of the system is required for a required construction project. Additionally, Maintenance and Housekeeping personnel receive training relative to potential contaminants and are required to report these issues for further investigation.
