Does the institution make cultural competence trainings and activities available to all students?:
Yes

A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:

Since the summer of 2008, JMU has provided a directed training effort to reach key student leaders who will have influence on the campus community. Various trainings and directed efforts have been offered to meet the specific needs of each student organization. Participants include: Orientation Assistants, Student Government Association, Hall Directors, Resident Advisors, University Program Leaders, University Recreation Student Staff, MYMOM (Make Your Mark on Madison -student leadership development program) Student Ambassadors, and all multicultural student organization leaders.
“Intergroup Dialogue” (IGD) was introduced to both graduate and undergraduate students during the fall of 2011. The undergraduate students had the opportunity to select/participate in a credit bearing (16 week course) or non-credit bearing (8 week course). Graduate students were offered an eight week experience. Ten sections of IGD have been offered since the fall of 2011. Doctoral candidates and faculty served as the professors/lectures for the IGD courses.
