For selected special events, catering companies are required to adhere to a zero-waste policy.


A brief description of programs and strategies institution has implemented to ensure that the guidelines are followed, including a brief description of instances when the guidelines have changed purchasing behavior, if applicable:

At the special events referenced above, caterers have been under the observation of the Office of Sustainability, and received feedback on their performance. Leading up to the event, the Office of Sustainability meets with and coaches the company on strategies for waste-free events, and aids in addressing the challenges it presents. These relationships have resulted in alterations in servingware and condiment types purchased, with a significant, observable reduction in solid waste associated with special events.
