Does the institution have an on-campus garden where students are able to gain organic farming and/or gardening experience?:
Yes

A brief description of the garden:

Ishiwari Kyoto-Univ. Farm

Faculty of Agriculture has opened this Farm since 2011 September, using an idle place on campus. Main participants are students from Prof. Matou’s Laboratory. But any students can join weekly farming, receiving guidance from Mr. Ishiwari, who is a JAS (Japanese Agricultural Standard)-certified local organic farmer. They try to use agricultural chemicals minimum and only use them when it is severely harmful to crops. This demonstration farm aims to;
grow vendible crops in the same way with local farmers
grow same crops organically and conventionally and compare
ascertain the effect of new materials

In 2014, a new course "Tasting Kyoto Vegetables" focusing on this field will be provided.
