Upon completion of the following educational programs regarding sustainability, a certificate will be issued by the educational unit.

1. The Educational Unit for Studies on Connectivity of Hilltop, Human and Ocean (CoHHO)

The “CoHHO Educational Program” is an interdisciplinary educational program and open for all graduate students of Kyoto University, founded in the Center for the Promotion of Interdisciplinary Education and Research (C-PIER), Kyoto University, by Field Science Education and Research Center in collaboration with the graduate schools of Agriculture, Global Environmental Studies, and Human and Environmental Studies. It provides wide-ranging lectures of interdisciplinary and harmonized fields. CoHHO study is a new science, which clarifies the connectivity between forest, river, and marine ecosystems and how to restore the connectivity when lost. The subsidy is available for students who complete CoHHO-related internships of over one month at an international organization within Japan or overseas.

2. “Inter-Graduate School Program for Sustainable Development and Survivable Societies”

This Inter-Graduate School Program is based on the cooperation of nine graduate schools and three research institutes. It aims at developing a new academic discipline of Global Survivability Studies and will cultivate human resources;
1. filled with the sense of mission and ethics necessary to overcome the many crises the human being is facing, and to enrich human society and contribute to its well-being
2. equipped with sound judgment and energy, able to implement appropriate measures based on their own specific expertise, and on a wide vision and a broad-based knowledge
Candidates to this program are selected among the students enrolled in the graduate schools and departments or divisions listed below;
Graduate School of Education, Graduate School of Economics, Graduate School of Science, Graduate School of Medicine, Graduate School of Engineering, Graduate School of Agriculture, Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies, Graduate School of Informatics, Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies.
Study fellowship with purposes to reduce financial burden will be provided so that students can focus on their program studies and doctoral research. The students who complete the Global Survivability Studies Program (GSS) will be notably:
•Academic leaders active in the science field of social / safety system, as first-class researchers and educators
•Active leaders on the global ground in the field of international crisis management, in international organizations
•Industry leaders able to appropriately address disasters, accidents and economic crisis, providing a stable and consistent business management
•Local and national leaders who exercise their leadership in policy making regarding security of food, resources and energy
•Science communicators who convey correct information based on their scientific knowledge, thus limiting public anxiety
•Business leaders such as entrepreneurs who develop new technologies and methodologies in the field of safety and security
