The LUMS portal includes many detailed documents about campus policies that elaborate on the original LUMS Charter created in 1985. One such document, last updated in 2005, is "LUMS Values and Ethics," which highlights the following environmental concerns:
1.3.3. Keeping the Campus Clean
All members of LUMS community have a shared responsibility to keep the campus clean.
This means no littering on campus, inside or outside classrooms. Trash-cans are placed
on campus at convenient locations. All members are urged to use these trashcans and
refrain from littering on campus. Fines will be imposed for this offence.
1.3.4. Smoking
Smoking is a well-known health hazard, and is strictly prohibited in the entire Academic
Block including the main entrance area, the Pepsi Dining Centre, the Library Building, and
the REC. Offenders will be fined and repeated violations can lead to strict disciplinary
action.

The original LUMS Charter specifies that LUMS is a "University open to all. The University shall be open to persons of either sex of whatever religion, race, creed. colour or domicile who are academically qualified for admission to the course of study offered by the University, and no person shall be denied the privileges of the University on the ground only of sex, religion, creed, race, class, colour or domicile." This sentiment is reiterated throughout newer documents on the LUMS portal.

The original LUMS Charter specifies that the university shall "use its financial and other resources to the fullest extent for the execution of its programmes" as well as that the Board shall "undertake responsibility for the financial viability of the University, including responsibility for ensuring effectiveness of its operations, their continuity and preservation of the autonomy of the University." Auditing policies are also noted in the charter.
