Many of the Ladders to Lakeland programs offer assistance in the form of a transportation subsidy to low income students. A $25 gas card is offered as an incentive to participate in various workshops. Students can earn up to approximately $300 per semester for a maximum of two semesters. Lakeland also has an agreement with Laketran which provides free rides to anyone with a current LCC identification card. This is very helpful to students who do not have a car, most of which are low income.

Lakeland offers the Ladders to Lakeland Programs that assist different groups including single mothers, African American males, Hispanic students and students without GEDs to successfully overcome obstacles and make the transition into a college career path. Programs include GED prep while earning college credit, weekly support groups for single mothers, and additional English education for Hispanic students. Prior to the beginning of the semester, the Ladders to Lakeland programs all offer orientation, in addition to the general college orientation programs. We also offer one-on-one coaching through the application, registration and financial aid process. All Ladders students also enroll in non-credit workshops for a semester or year. One major focus of these workshops is college preparedness and academic success, helping them understand what is required in college, and helping them gain the mindset and skills to meet these requirements.

The Ladders to Lakeland program hired a recruiter to visit various community agencies that work with low income individuals who are seeking education. Her community visits included agencies such as the Department of Job and Family Services, and many other government funded agencies which serve low income people.
