A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):

Employee and Family Assistance Program

Full-time Employees (Staff and Faculty) or family members of employees may access EFAP services by phoning (807) 623-7677 or toll-free (888) 423-5862. They will then be connected with a counsellor or can arrange an appointment. The Behavioural Sciences Centre is a department of St. Joseph's Care Group, located at the Hogarth Riverview Manor site in Thunder Bay.

An employees first visit to the EFAP will consist of a problem focused interview with a counsellor. The counsellor will attempt to identify the underlying problem and recommend a mutually-agreeable plan of action. Up to 4 individual or joint counselling sessions are allowable yearly. If the employee should require longer term assistance, the counsellor will assist the employee with a referral to a qualified professional or agency. If the counsellor feels that the individual's problem is very serious, they may be asked to seek assistance from their physician for referral to appropriate care.

Student Health and Counselling Centre (SHCC) is a team of health and counselling professionals who are here to support student physical, emotional, and mental health needs of students during their time at Lakehead University. This office also works to connect and collaborate with International Student Offices, Gender Issues, Pride, Food Bank, and People's Potato, to ensure that students health and wellness is addressed. They strive to provide services and information that is accessible and supportive of the many diverse students in attendance at Lakehead University. For more information contact Karen Chan - Manager of Student Health and Counselling Services HR.

Staff and Faculty access health and wellbeing services through HR. SHCC focuses primarily on students but may treat faculty/staff in emergencies or provide emergency referrals
