A brief description of the institution’s program(s) to encourage student research in sustainability:

The Sustainable China program will fund student research projects focused on sustainability in China. The provost also funds undergraduates to carry out research projects with faculty over the summer and some of these projects relate to sustainability, e.g. in the biology department a number of students were employed to carry out research on invasive species in the Fox River and Lake Michigan.
There is $75,000 a year for students to complete their senior experience projects meaning that any sernior can use the money therefore students in the environmental studies program and the natural sciences can be encouraged to do sustainability research. There is an Ecellence in Science Endowed Fund to encourage summer reseach. There is a Peace and Social Activism Fund for social sustainability research. There is support from the Montecelle College Foundation to encourage women to do research through their funding. There is an excellence in geology fund to encourage student sustainability research. The Cook Fund is for 1-2 students to do research over the summer at Bjorklunden, 425 acre lodge in Door County WI. Each year we offer our Symposium on Environmental topics which includes a focused sustainability related research project (e.g. transportation, solid waste, urban agriculture).

Yes

A brief description of the institution’s program(s) to encourage faculty research in sustainability:

The Sustainable China program is funded by the Henry Luce Foundation Initiative on Asian Studies and the Environment. This is an interdisciplinary program through which faculty can form collaborations with Chinese partners and carry out research projects that relate to sustainability issues in China.
There is a distinctive fund for faculty to do research. There is also a Warch fund for faculty scholarship. There is another grant for aquriing new science teaching instruments. Recently, that money has been used for bat monitors and flume to study sustainability. The Spoerl Grant is for research in science ans society.

The ENST department has a library budget that allows us to subscribe to journals and to get materials needed to support student and faculty scholarship.
