A brief description of the institution’s methodology for evaluating employee satisfaction and engagement:

From the report's introduction:

The survey consisted of eight questions capturing demographic information which included: gender, age, race/ethnicity, highest level of education, sexuality, full- and part-time status, years of employment, and salary/exempt versus hourly/non-exempt employment categories. Ninety-seven closed-ended questions within six categories (Communication and Morale, Job Satisfaction, Physical Environment, Sources of Stress, Diversity, and University Community) were asked. Survey respondents were also provided with a Comments area following each category. Seven additional open-ended questions were asked at the end of the survey. The wording of all questions appears in the appendices of this report.

The Staff Climate Survey was administered to 312 Lawrence University staff. Staff that normally use computers in their work received an invitation to participate in an email containing a link to the online survey. A paper version of the survey was also made available to staff without computer access and those who preferred that mode of completion.


A brief description of the mechanism(s) by which the institution addresses issues raised by the evaluation (including examples from the previous three years):

From the report's introduction:
The Human Resources Department at Lawrence will run hiring reports and look at adverse impact to eliminate segregation. There will be discussions with senior management to address the concerning issues through focus groups and all staff meetings. For example, in 2015, there were many extra workshops around topics of diversity and inclusion.
