Materials diverted from the solid waste landfill or incinerator:
279.48 Tons

Materials disposed in a solid waste landfill or incinerator :
208 Tons

A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contributed to the diversion rate, including efforts made during the previous three years:

Diversion is increasing due to the widespread presence of 3-stream recycling bins on campus as well as the organics program in back kitchens (cafeteria, Club 213, Tim Hortons) and at residence.

A brief description of any food donation programs employed by the institution:

Loyalist has chosen not to participate in a food donation program because our food services provider, Aramark, has a detailed and robust food purchasing inventory system that minimizes the generation of leftovers/food waste.

A brief description of any pre-consumer food waste composting program employed by the institution:

Loyalist College has a pre-consumer organics program operating in the cafeteria, Club 213 (on-campus restaurant run by the Culinary Program) and Tim Hortons.
