All students must take an Engaged Learning course as part of Loyola University Chicago's Core Curriculum requirements. Service Learning courses are among the 5 categories of Engaged Learning courses and require that students spend more than 20 hours of service work in the community or on a community based project.

Loyola conducts an annual day of service for employees. There are also multiple smaller initiatives where staff and faculty support specific programs including Misericordia, Catholic Charities and our local communities.
