As a result of signing the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment (ACUPCC), Luther has committed to all new campus construction being built to at least the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED silver standard or equivalent, as well as all renovations. Every effort is also made during construction and renovation to source local materials and recycle as much waste material as possible. Luther has completed several renovations over the past few years ( Valders Hall of Science, Norby House, Miller and Dieseth residence halls) according to these guidelines, but has not sought LEED certification for them.

Luther requires the general contractors to meet LEED Silver construction standards. The Director of Facilities ensures compliance with this policy.
