The Campus Sustainability Council, comprising students, faculty, and staff, began its duties in Fall 2008. Each member of the Council serves on at least one of four sub-groups that will include other members of the Luther community. Sustainability Council meetings are open to the campus community. The Sustainability Council is responsible for voting to recommend policies and programs to the cabinet for approval, approving funding for sustainability grants and providing feedback on new programs, initiatives and ideas coming from the task groups. The task groups are:

-Student Learning
-Energy and Water
-Food, Purchasing and Waste
-Land Use

The Center for Sustainable Communities has a Faculty Director, two full-time Assistant Directors, Fellows and many student workers. Our strong collaborations across campus and the community are really what enable this comprehensive sustainability work to get done.

The Luther College Board of Regents is the governing body for the institution. A Facilities and Sustainability Committee consisting of Regents and community members meets three times a year in coordination with Regents meetings to discuss issues related to Facilities and Sustainability. Staff from the Center for Sustainable Communities are invited to present at least once/year to this group.
