Yes

The name of the campaign(s):
Macalester College participated in two campaigns: RecycleMania and Minnesota Campus Energy Challenge ( MCEC)

A brief description of the campaign(s):

RecycleMania is a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities to their campus communities. Over a 10-week period, schools report recycling and trash data which are then ranked according to who collects the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables, the least amount of trash per capita, or have the highest recycling rate. Macalester participated in Recyclemania in 2009 and 2010.

The MN Campus Energy Challenge was started by Macalester students and 2010 was the 4th annual competition. Each year, participating schools compete to achieve the greatest percent reduction in total energy use during the month of February through campus awareness, activities, and larger campus improvement projects. Instead of comparing schools' results, schools are compared to its previous records, creating a measure of each school's achievements.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign(s):

RecycleMania directly contributed to the creation of a self-sustaining school program that recycles one-sided printed paper as notebooks ("Onesies"). Moreover, Recyclemania led to further recycling collection on campus which worked in hand with the efforts of the campus Zero Waste committee.

Macalester College achieved a 6% overall energy reduction (normalized for weather and length of the month) in February of 2010 over February of 2009. This was in addition to the previous gains of the past four years.
