The mission of the Macalester College Department of Multicultural Life is to integrate and affirm the people, discourses, thoughts, and experiences of marginalized people into fabric of the Macalester community.
The goals of the DML are to:
• Identify, assess and promote social justice for the campus community.
• Create partnerships with academic and administrative departments to infuse multiculturalism throughout all aspects of campus life
• Foster and promote a welcoming and pluralistic environment that is inclusive of the entire College community

A brief description of the diversity coordinator's position:
The Dean of Multicultultural Life manages the Department of Multicultural Life (DML) and works with senior administrators and other campus personnel to promote student success and inclusion. To do this, the Dean works with the DML staff and a wide range of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members about multicultural issues and development. The Dean is currently focusing on creating an inclusion initiative that will synchronize voluntary campus efforts to address emerging multicultural needs and build institutional capacity to meet them. The Dean serves on the President's Council, the Student Affairs Leadership Team, the Advisory Board of the Institute for Global Citizenship, an the Faculty and Staff Affirmative Action Committees.
