The Sustainability Learning Communities Program:
The Sustainability Learning Communities Program helps faculty members transform their approaches to teaching within coursework so all McGill students, upon completion of their degrees, will be engaged citizens with the knowledge, skills, and perspectives necessary to address the sustainability goals of McGill University (as expressed through Vision 2020 Sustainability Strategy) and the grand challenges of the 21st century.

Each Learning Community (LC) is made up of faculty, staff and students that work with another LC such that together they take an inquiry-guided approach to discovering how best to integrate sustainability into courses and/or programs.

Monthly meetings have been held since December 2014, with the members of the LCs being having the right to take some time to come reflect together on learning outcomes related to sustainability, and sharing and documenting their approaches to integrating sustainability into the undergraduate experience. Teaching and Learning Services, the unit coordinating the Sustainability Learning Communities Program, recently hosted a university-wide symposium where it started a conversation about learning outcomes related to social, economic and ecological responsibility and how they can be translated into actual learning experiences for McGill students. Existing LCs acted as incubator for ideas and strategies for this event and over 120 persons attended from 10 of McGill Faculties.
