In early Fall 2015 a handful of Miami faculty and staff met to discuss the creation of a sustainability literacy assessment. Although they ultimately decided to transfer the effort to the Spring 2016 class of one of the participating faculty, the group had quickly assembled a set of thoughts and eleven questions that might be of use to others.

Although Miami University's Sustainability Literacy Assessment is currently under development, it is part of one of the commitments and goals approved by the Sustainability Committee, as stated below. Thoughts and eleven survey questions assembled by the preliminary planners are shared in this credit for the possible benefit of others.
Goal. Faculty, staff and students shall demonstrate an understanding of key principles of sustainability by taking a sustainability literacy assessment, created through faculty research, approved by the Sustainability Committee, and issued triennially by the Office for Institutional Research, with the first in FY 2017.
