A brief description of the institution’s methodology for evaluating employee satisfaction and engagement:

The Higher Education Research Institute Faculty Survey is designed to provide institutions with actionable information on important and timely issues. It includes topics such as pedagogical practices, faculty goals and expectations for students, research and service activities, sources of stress and satisfaction, and the connection between learning in the classroom and practices in the local and global community.

Results from the HERI Faculty Survey have been used in strategic planning, faculty recruitment and retention, faculty development activities, assessment and accreditation, and discussions relating pedagogy to student learning experiences.


A brief description of the mechanism(s) by which the institution addresses issues raised by the evaluation (including examples from the previous three years):

The HERI survey
The office of the provost recommended a pay increase for part-time faculty, effective spring 2016; the Center for Teaching Excellence provides grant funding and administrative support for faculty to propose and explore new teaching methods; Faculty Learning Communities help support faculty growth/satisfaction (see http://www.units.miamioh.edu/celt/ for recent examples)
