There are two main sustainability committees at MSU. The Sustainability Working Committee facilitates the on-campus environmental research and recommendations and the Sustainability Visioning Group operates like a think tank focusing on broader issues of sustainability that should be considered in the next 10-20 years.

MSU’s Office of Campus Sustainability and the Be Spartan Green initiative leads research, data collection, programming and outreach, and communications for the environmental stewardship initiative. The Office of Campus Sustainability provides resources to all Spartans to take action to be Spartan green.

A brief description of the sustainability coordinator’s position:

Basic Function
Assists in planning and direction of the Office of Campus Sustainability; plans and executes internal and external marketing, communications, media relations, publications, and outreach activities of the office.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

* Plans new strategies, campaigns, and directs public relations efforts for the Office
* Develops promotion and marketing/news plans for the Office
* Plans, creates, produces, edits, or drafts releases and feature materials for media and publications in order to inform the public and University of issues, initiatives, programs, and events
* Responds to internal and external requests for information/interviews and serves as a resource to units, departments, and colleges
* Monitors campus-based sustainability research and consults with University officials, faculty, and researchers on matters pertaining to campus sustainability efforts
* Produces and presents related reports evaluating the effectiveness of research implementation and reviews, analyzes, interprets, and/or summarizes information and studies for use by the Office, University, and for public dissemination
* Plans, develops, coordinates, and participates in workshops, training, orientations, events and programs for the University community at-large
* Assists in generating proposals for external funding
* Supervises, interviews, and reviews performance of assigned support staff
* Remains current in field by attending nationally recognized seminars, conferences and other programs.
