A brief description of how the assessment(s) were developed:

This project consisted of a sustainability themed online survey of MSU undergraduate students. The survey included questions gauging sustainability and scientific knowledge, norms and behaviors surrounding sustainability and environmental attitudes and behaviors. This survey will serve as the base line year and will be used to compare against future years surveys.

A brief description of how the assessment(s) were administered:

Sustainability knowledge was assessed by using twelve multiple choice questions from an existing scale developed by Zwickle, Koontz, Slagle, and Bruskotter (2014). The questions for sustainability knowledge assessment were included at the beginning of a larger survey for campus sustainability assessment. The survey was administered online through Qualtrics website. Recruiting emails containing the link to the online survey were sent to twenty-five thousand students randomly selected by the office of registrar.

A brief summary of results from the assessment(s):

A total of 3,447 students (13.79%) completed the sustainability knowledge assessment. The mean score for sustainability knowledge is 7.49 out of 12 with more than 50% of students getting more than half of the questions correct. As the plan is to conduct sustainability knowledge assessment on an annual basis, no follow-up assessment will be administered at this time.
