A Bachelor of Science in Sustainability is offered at the University. In addition, a working group made up of faculty and staff meet regularly to advance multidisciplinary facets of sustainability in the curriculum.

MN B3 requires every state facility to conistently and constantly improve energy efficiency in it's buildings and operations.

The guidelines for both new buildings and major renovations through B3 must:
•Exceed the state energy code by at least 30 percent
•Focus on achieving the lowest possible lifetime costs
•Encourage continual energy conservation improvements
•Include air quality and lighting standards
•Create and maintain a healthy environment
•Facilitate productivity improvements
•Specify ways to reduce material costs
•Consider the long-term operating costs of the building including the use of renewable energy sources and distributed electric energy generation that uses a renewable source or natural gas or a fuel that is as clean or cleaner than natural gas.

MSUM is committed to improving transportation options for students through the MAT Bus program. The MSUM student senate implemented a student fee to support annual bus passes for all MSUM Students.
