The University IPM plan includes:
1. Inspection and Monitoring - regular inspections for signs of pests, monitoring any issues that may be found
2. Identification - determine types of pests to determine best method of treatment
3. Habitat Modification - modifying the habitat (removing contaminated leaves; thinning branches) to address a pest problem
4. Treatment - using only chemicals that are appropriate for the specific pest; reading labels to understand product and proper application; always wearing proper safety equipment
5. Prevention - when prudent, pretreating (with soil and tree injections) certain species to prevent pests
