A brief description of the program, including examples of peer-to-peer outreach activities:

Muhlenberg College is developing and expanding peer-to-peer sustainability staff outreach activities. The current group of staff sustainability educators come from Plant Operations. The Plant Operations Staff are trained in specific sustainability practices such as solar power, energy efficiency, waste disposal and recycling practices, gardening and composting, water efficiency and green cleaning. This staff peer-to-peer outreach is part of our Sustainability Plan. Plant Operations Sustainability Educators provide outreach during several events including staff development day, employee fitness and wellness programming and Earth Day. Generally, they educate small groups of self-selected employees on these topics or table at other broader events. They also facilitate sustainability education by coordinating partner outreach. For example, they have facilitated outreach by waste providers regarding new recycling guidelines.

Plant Operations staff are assigned to these roles based on their knowledge, training, skillset, and personal initiative.

Plant Operations management staff attends numerous seminars regarding waste and recycling trends, tours plant, investigates stormwater systems and grounds management, energy efficiency and have professional certifications in LEED, agricultural practices, and energy efficiency.
