Does the institution cover sustainability topics in new employee orientation and/or in outreach and guidance materials distributed to new employees, including faculty and staff?:
Yes

A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:

NYU's new employee orientation involves a mandatory webinar with information about the university, its policies, history, key initiatives, and how to succeed as an employee.

The interactive webinar features slides and narration about NYU Sustainability, discussed as one of the five "key priorities" of the institution (along with plans for strategic long-term growth, core faculty hiring, global initiatives, and diversity).

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:

The Office of Sustainability has met with HR staff to explore additional ways to enhance the materials that new employees receive about sustainability, and these staff are now well-versed in green programs and resources on campus, and able to refer any employees that ask for additional information.

All employees, including new ones, receive direct and targeted email, posters, and other materials inviting them to get involved in key programs such as the Sustainability Advocates, Sustainability Task Force, and Green Grants.

In 2011, the Office of Sustainability will explore setting up an additional web-based learning module which will automatically be sent to new employees after they've settled in, inviting them to learn more about the greening of NYU.
