The baseline was adopted because this is the most complete and comprehensive fiscal year in which full information is available.


A brief description of any building temperature standards employed by the institution:

The building automation system shuts down all air handling units, heating, and cooling systems at the Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus between 9:00pm - 7:00am on weekdays and 5:30pm - 8:00am on weekends to adjust temperatures based on occupancy.


A brief description of any light emitting diode (LED) lighting employed by the institution:

The Applied Health Institute at the Welland Campus has LED lighting in many corridors and common spaces. LED lighting has also been installed numerous rooms throughout the Welland Campus including the Hamilton Room and meeting rooms and offices in the Simcoe Building as well as the Radio Studio's in Voyageur. The Brewery expansion at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus also has LED lighting installed.


A brief description of any occupancy and/or vacancy sensors employed by the institution:

Niagara College has motion sensors for lighting in the majority of washrooms across the Welland Campus. Selected hallways, classrooms and offices in the Applied Health Institute, Simcoe Building, International Division, Rankin Technology Centre and the Athletic Centre at the Welland Campus also have motion sensors installed.

All buildings at the Welland Campus and Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus are connected to the energy management system. The electricity sub-meters collect data through the PowerLogic ION Enterprise Energy Management software. This system allows a centralized location to track energy consumption and performance in multiple buildings.

As projects come up they are reviewed for opportunities for alternatives and look for EnergySTAR rating, higher efficiency
