Weight of air emissions was manually calculated using conversion values from Alberta Government. The electricity conversions reflect Alberta’s Power mix i.e., primarily coal based, with natural gas peaking plants.

Although NAIT does not have a formal policy to minimize emissions from mobile sources, NAIT does have a no smoking policy for anywhere on Campus indoors and outdoors. There is signage declaring NAIT as a Smoke Free Campus. This policy began on July 1, 2009, making NAIT among the first post-secondaries in Alberta to go smoke-free. This policy arose out of a desire for a healthy, safe, clean and respectful learning environment for all of the Institute's stakeholders.
