As per NAIT Procedure CSR 1.2: Sustainable Landscaping

1.0 Process
1.1 Plant trees, shrubs and flowers that are hardy, drought tolerant and insect or disease resistant.
1.2 Incorporate use of “Myke” natural mycorise (beneficial fungus) when installing new plant material.
1.3 Use organic mulches in shrub beds to form weed barrier and retain soil moisture.
1.4 When practical use mechanical or biological methods to control weed and pest problems.
1.5 Use only spot spraying and selective weed control practices for weed and pest problems.
1.6 Use organic matter/compost to enrich soil in flower and shrub beds.
1.7 Use mulching mowers when cutting grass; to enable clippings to nourish the lawn areas.
1.8 Use grass seed mixtures that are suitable for the climate and applications at NAIT. (i.e., native grasses)
1.9 Apply ice melter and traction control products that are environmentally friendly.

Area of undeveloped land represents the leased Kidney Lake site (16 ha), undeveloped land east of L building on main campus used as temporary parking for construction workers (0.85 ha), and the construction site for the Centre for Applied Technologies building, expected to open in 2016 (~2.6 ha).
