A brief description of on-site renewable electricity generating devices :

As part of a campus energy optimization project, a new biomass fueled cogeneration combined heat and power (CHP) plant was constructed in 2013 as an addition to the existing plant that will provide guaranteed cost savings. The new plant addition utilizes a solid fuel stoker boiler rated at 40,000 pounds per hour, capable of burning wood chips. The new plant is capable of meeting 87% of thermal needs on campus. A back pressure steam turbine generator produces up to 645 kilowatts of electricity, which is about 16% of the university's electrical load. The existing natural gas boilers supplements the biomass plant for peaking duty and electricity continues to be purchased, as needed, from the Marquette Board of Light and Power.

OP5 and OP6 have different performance years due to separate energy savings initiatives. The Performance year for OP5 showcases consumption at the completion of a phased-in performance contract period that began in FY10/11, but the data reported in OP5 come from within the past three years. The OP6 performance year showcases the energy consumption upon completion of a CHP plant; a separate energy savings initiative that has been put on hold in years FY14/15 and FY15/16 due to the drop in natural gas prices.
