The Sustainability Literacy Survey was created through the collaborate work of faculty, staff, and students and first implemented in Fall 2017.
A brief description of how a representative sample was reached (if applicable) and how the assessment(s) were administered :
The assessment is administered through a sustainability literacy survey that is given to all incoming freshman as part of their required First Year Experience (FYE) course. Since Northland adopted this survey beginning Fall 2017, the college has not yet administered a sustainability literacy exit survey to the graduating class. This will be done in May 2018 for the first time.
A brief summary of results from the literacy assessment(s), including a description of any measurable changes over time:
Of the students entering Northland College this year, 76% indicated an interest in sustainability (only 5% were disinterested in sustainability). The three largest areas of specific interest were (1) Environmental Protection/Restoration, (2) Renewable Energy and Sustainable Building Design, and (3) Local and Sustainable Food. Northland is currently unable to assess changes over time due to the recency of adopting the survey.
