A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation (including how multiple dimensions of sustainability are addressed):

Sustainability is featured in three aspects of new student orientation:
(1) All new students take an Outdoor Orientation trip designed to introduce them to the northwoods environment and to help them form connections with each other. Many of these trips include a component about the trip's carbon footprint, and all of the fall trips include fruits and vegetables grown from the campus garden or from organic local farms. All of the trips educate students of the various aspects of sustainability and seek to increase awareness of being good environmental stewards and of becoming advocates of a strong sense of place and community.

(2) All new students receive an introductory overview to campus sustainability programs led by the campus sustainability coordinator and the campus sustainability work-study students.

(3) All new students take a sustainability literacy survey through the required First Year Experience (FYE) class.
